Today we, me and twelve other women, are starting the Love Dare 40 day challenge. This dare is based on the book “The Love Dare” by Stephen and Alex Kendrick. Today the basis is built on the verse (Ephesians 4:2, NLT) Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
There is so much packed into this one verse. It speaks of being humble, patient, gentle, and making allowance for each other’s faults all of which are to be motivated by love in action.
I struggle with all of these. This morning as I sat down to read the first day, two of my children were having meltdowns. Two others were arguing with each other and another was pouting in their room. At that moment my patience was void and my motivation was not love. As I read the scripture I thought to myself, wow glad I only have to do this dare for my husband today.
Wait, what? No, I have to do this not only for my husband but for my children and anyone else I come into contact with as well. Why? Because I am a Christian a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Jesus is alive and He is living on the inside of me and we are called to a higher standard. We can’t go through life living how we want anymore one day we will give an account to God for our every word and action good and bad.
Today I am choosing to be patient and kind and I am motivated out of love for my Heavenly Father, my husband, our children, and you. Lord Jesus we need your help today right now to be our strength. Give us your eyes, ears and your hands to love those around us. God help us to be motivated with love and take away our selfish motives and desires. Help us to see other’s more important than ourselves increase in us a soft heart willing and able to forgive each others shortcomings. Help us first to accept love and forgiveness from you. God we give you all of us for the next 40 days, please heal our hearts and grow us into the likeness of your son Jesus Christ. In Jesus name we pray amen.
