Today in the Love Dare book we are on day seventeen can you believe it we’re almost to the halfway mark. Today we’re talking about how Love promotes intimacy. Intimacy can be described in a few different forms we are going to explore two of them.
Song of Songs 2:16 (NIV) says: My lover is mine and I am his; he browses among the lilies.
One form of intimacy is sexual intimacy. It is giving of oneself physically to another. It is a place of vulnerability and nakedness before God and with our spouses. We literally become one with our spouse, it is a place where freedom is to be born but all to often fear and shame reside. True physical intimacy cannot take place apart from emotional intimacy. First, the groundwork and foundation have to be laid, otherwise the physical act is mere sex, not true intimacy.
Isaiah 32:17-18 (NIV) says:The fruit of righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.
The second form of intimacy we will talk about is emotional intimacy. Intimacy brings peace and quietness and confidence within a marriage. Our homes will be peaceful and secure dwelling places, undisturbed places of rest. Wow, that sounds amazing does it not? Guess what, it’s possible for you and for me, not because I say so, but because God’s word says so.
First we have to be willing to be vulnerable with God and then our spouses. We have to be willing to be uncomfortable. We have to come to God naked and unashamed bearing all of ourselves before Him, this is intimacy.
Today are you willing to start to build a foundation in your marriage? Or maybe you had a foundation in the past and it’s been broken and now trust needs to be rebuilt. The question is this, are you willing?
Psalm 51:10-12 (NLT) Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.
Lord Jesus we are willing, make us willing to obey you. Create in us clean hearts, and loyal spirits to you and our spouse’s. Restore our joy that we once had, we invite your Holy Spirit here with us to guide us and direct us. God show us true intimacy, God build a solid foundation in our marriages with you as the chief cornerstone. Restore peace and rest in our homes in Jesus name amen.
