Today is day twenty-two in the Love Dare book. Love is faithful. The book spoke about how God calls us to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind but then also to love our neighbor as ourselves. We are to love others faithfully even when they don’t deserve it. While we were still sinners, God sent his one and only son to die for us and take the punishment for our sins. God is and always will be faithful in His love for us.
The book talked about the story of Hosea and Gomer. God called Hosea to take Gomer as his wife knowing full well, of her not so glamorous past. Awhile into their marriage and three children later, Gomer was unfaithful to Hosea. At this point God tells Hosea to love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes. I think, this is one of the greatest examples of faithful love exhibited in the Bible.
When I think about my own faithfulness to God, one thing that I am totally faithful in, is complaining. I am constantly whining about this or that or finding a reason to be let down or disappointed. I am tired of myself and my lack of faithfulness to the Lord. I want to be known as a faithful loving servant to God, a faithful wife to my husband, and a faithful loving mother to my children. Lets look in the bible for another great example of faithfulness to follow.
Luke 18:1-8 (NLT) says:
Parable of the Persistent Widow
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’”
Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”
I want to be like the persistent widow in my prayer life for my husband, my children and my friends. I want to wear God out with my constant requests. I want to be faithful in prayer, never giving up. I want to pray faithfully, without ceasing.
How about you, what are you faithful in? What do you need to be faithful in? Lord Jesus hear our cries today. Show us again your faithful love, help us to faithfully love our spouses unconditionally even if the love is not returned. Help us to never quit. Show us how to pray for our spouse without ceasing. Help us to believe your word when you say, you will give justice to your chosen people when we cry out to you day and night. Lord Jesus renew our hearts today in Jesus name amen.
