Today is day thirty of the Love dare book. We are on the home stretch with only ten days to go, can you believe it? I am excited for us and I want to encourage all of you who are doing this with me to finish strong, don’t give up.
The book talked about unity, and unity by definition is the absence of diversity, oneness of mind, feeling, and spirit. Diversity is defined as the state of being united or joined as a whole. the condition of having or being composed of differing elements : variety.
When I first thought of the word unity, I thought unity and coming together as a whole are good. But then the words absence of unity struck a chord in me like fingernails scratching down a chalkboard. If I only looked at the definitions of unity and diversity the two contrast the others existence. One cannot be unified without having different elements and variety.
My husband and I are united we are one in mind, feelings and spirit but we are made with different elements and we each have variety. Nothing on this earth is 100% pure without some variety, even of the smallest amount. Even a diamond in its purest form has impurities maybe miniscule but they still exist.
Unity can be best described when we look at the trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Matthew 28:18-21 (NIV)
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
I can’t begin to describe or explain the wonderful mystery of God the Father, Jesus Christ the son, and the Holy Spirit, but I will share with you the example I gave to our children. I explained how the trinity was like an egg. An egg is one egg but it has three different parts, the yoke, the egg white and the shell. Those three parts together make up the one whole egg. All three parts are different in how they look but all together are one unified egg that work together to form the whole.
John 10:30 (NLT) says:
The Father and I are one.
Acts 7:55-56 (NLT) says:
But Stephen, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed steadily into heaven and saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand. And he told them, “Look, I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing in the place of honor at God’s right hand!”
1 John 5:20 (NLT)
And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.
Today I would like to challenge us to be united with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in prayer. Jesus please show us oneness with you. Strengthen the three strand chord in our marriage God make it unbreakable unify it with you being the center the core, the foundation. Lord help us magnify your light like a beautiful diamond help us shine bright all for your glory. In Jesus name amen.
All of us that belong to the family of believers may have different ways to describe the trinity. If you have a way of describing the trinity that differs from mine I would love to hear it. Please share in the comments section.
