Today is day thirty-six in the Love dare, Love is God’s word. The picture above is of the Ten Commandments when was the last time you read them? Do you know all ten without looking them up? I want you to try to recite them all before you look. How many could you remember? All of them? Some of them? This isn’t meant to make us feel bad it’s meant to teach us because how can we be obedient to God’s word if we don’t know it?
The bible is the only book that is alive and living, if you read it you will be transformed. Do you read it? I mean really, really read it? Do you devour it like a juicy hamburger, or do you nibble on it, like at a Christmas party too embarrassed to fill your plate completely? I challenge you today to dig into God’s word, gorge yourself on it and have your fill. Feast on his food that will satisfy every part of you.
1 John 2:3-6 (NIV)
We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
When we read the bible it is full of commands for us to follow. We are to read God’s word and obey it.
John 15:17 (NIV)
This is my command: Love each other.
Do we love one another?
Matthew 22:37-40 (NIV)
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Do we love God with all of our hearts, all of our souls, all of our minds? Do we love our neighbor?
Matthew 6:25 (NIV)
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?
Do we worry?
John 15:4-5 (NIV)
No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
Are we in Him? Are we abiding in Him?
Luke 6:37 (NIV)
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven
Do we judge others? Do we forgive?
Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)
“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.
Do we pray?
Matthew 7:13 (NIV)
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.
Is our path narrow or wide?
John 14:15 (NIV)
“If you love me, keep my commands.
Do we love Jesus?
